SE Missouri accepts basketball penalty (AP)

Southeast Missouri will not appeal NCAA sanctions calling for the forfeiture of 44 women's basketball victories as well as placing both the women's and men's programs on two years of probation. The university released a one-sentence statement late Thursday saying officials decided not to appeal the penalty.

Alcorn names new basketball coach (AP)
Alcorn State hired former University of Tennessee player Tonya Edwards as its women's basketball coach Monday. Edwards spent the past two seasons as an assistant at Detroit-Mercy. Alcorn State athletic director Darren J. Hamilton said during Edwards' tenure at Detroit-Mercy she oversaw the budget, served as recruiter and coached the guards.

UConn assistant set to replace Staley at Temple (AP)
Longtime Connecticut assistant Tonya Cardoza will replace Dawn Staley as women's basketball coach at Temple, a person with knowledge of the hiring said Wednesday. Cardoza's appointment is expected to be announced by Temple on Friday, according to the person, who spoke on condition of anonymity because it was still two days off.

Auriemma signs 5-year, $8M contract (AP)

Geno Auriemma signed a deal that will keep the Hall of Fame coach on Connecticut's sideline through 2013. University officials said Wednesday that the five-year, $8 million contract extension begins July 1 and includes a base salary of $300,000 the first year. That amount will increase by $25,000 annually throughout the contract.

George Washington hires Bozeman (AP)
Mike Bozeman was hired Tuesday as George Washington's women's basketball coach. Bozeman spent the past three seasons as an assistant under Joe McKeown, who resigned this month after a 19-year tenure to become the women's coach at Northwestern. The Colonials advanced to the NCAA tournament in each of Bozeman's three seasons, including back-to-back final 16 appearances in 2007 and 2008.
